DISASTER MANAGEMENT IN HOSPITALS

Managing disaster situation is a concern and essential aspect at an individual level, organization level, society level, state level, national level and international level.

Looking at current scenario the occurrence of disasters both natural and manmade is more likely a frequent challenge each one has to face.

Managing disasters at hospital level is even more challenging as we have patients who are depended on us and are our responsibility. We need to safeguard ourselves as well as our patients. There is need to have a proper Disaster Management Plan for each hospital considering various aspects of disaster and disaster management.

Whether accredited or non accredited the goal remains the same, that is staff and patient safety. Many hospitals have taken a step towards this direction under the guidance of Aniruddha’s Academy of Disaster Management (AADM).

Incepted in the year 2001, Aniruddha's Academy of Disaster Management (AADM) is a culmination of the clear foresight and vision of Sadguru Shree Aniruddha Bapu, i.e. Dr. Aniruddha Dhairyadhar Joshi - MD (med) a professional medical consultant. The AADM was incorporated in April 2005 as a charitable organization with Disaster Management as its primary cause.

The academy specializes in ensuring a basic training of Disaster Management to all the people and free of cost. Each of these trained people is then certified as a Disaster Management Volunteer or a DMV. In addition, the academy also concentrates in developing trainers to conduct and impart more and more training programs across India to begin with.

The academy has spiritual base. “Awghachi Sansar Sukhacha Karin”, that is “Let us Make the Entire World happy”, are the guiding words for the academy. Truth, Love & Joy are the best principles here.

The present scope of functioning of AADM ensures

1. Conducting basic Disaster Management Training courses at various locations across India.

2. Providing assistance to the local and civic bodies during any unexpected disaster.

3. Providing crowd control service or what is also termed as seva, at various justifiable public events and festivals.

4. In addition, AADM has also undertaken projects like Vermiculture, Pulse Polio Vaccination drives, tree plantation; cleanliness drives for the general welfare of the society.

Today, AADM is the preferred choice of all NGO's to provide competent support to the core emergency services during a disaster emergency to carry out relief measures (AADM — Response) and also during festivals and public events due to their efficiency in managing huge masses (AADM — Mitigation).

Academy has also launched textbook of Disaster Management. The book is published in English as well as in Marathi. In it lot of Disaster Management related information is given in a lucid manner. For effective disaster management, it is very important that we imbibe in ourselves, the instructions given in this book. It is available in each and every big library of our country (India). This is the book that one in today’s times should carry with oneself at all times and one which every family must possess.
